Every day, your child achieves new milestones, and their first dental appointment is another one to add to the list. Aliana Pediatric Dentistry, one of the best black-owned dentist clinics in Richmond, Rosenberg, and Katy, TX, will be happy to be part of this important milestone!

We, along with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommend you bring your child as early as first tooth and no later than their first birthday.
During your first visit, you will meet some of our dedicated pediatric dental team, be given a special introductory gift, and discuss your concerns for your child before entering the treatment room. Families will accompany one of our specialized team members to review tips for keeping their teeth healthy. They will walk you and your child through the steps of their first preventive care visit, or cleaning. Then, Drs. Hardy or Combest will join you at the end for a thorough exam to assess for decay and abnormalities, complete an oral cancer screening and orthodontic assessment. We will complete your visit by discussing any remaining questions you may have.
We request that you complete our First Visit Forms prior to arriving for your appointment. This helps our office keep your and everyone else’s scheduled visit on time.
Your initial baby exam will last approximately 30 minutes. Oral hygiene instructions will also be given with suggestions to help your child care for their own teeth. In most cases, we will also clean their teeth on this visit, and provide an evaluation that will outline any existing dental problems and proposed treatment.

Preparing Your Child for the “Big Day”
Children have an extraordinary ability to pick up on their parents' emotions, so if you're nervous about going to the dentist, try not to show it!
During this visit, we'll mostly focus on talking with you and your child, inspecting his or her mouth, and performing oral health evaluations. It's better to let your child know what to expect ahead of time without making a huge deal out of it. You may even assist them to prepare for "the big day" to add to the excitement.
Before heading to our clinic, it's a good idea to carry a calming toy, a snack, and an extra diaper or two with you when you come in, just in case your child is not really in the mood. If necessary, leave other children at home so that we may focus on the new patient; nevertheless, bringing another adult along may let you focus on your child's dental health. Filling out documents ahead of time can also save time and effort on the day of the appointment.
The Big Day!
